James Shields tossed a complete game and Ben Zobrist homered for the second straight day as the Tampa Bay Rays downed the host Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of their three-game set.

Shields (2-1) breezed through his second consecutive complete game, limiting the Jays (9-12) to four hits while walking two and striking out seven. It was the third shutout of Shields' career, but his first since 2008. Shields also became the first Rays hurler to toss consecutive complete games in the same season since Joe Kennedy in 2002.

Zobrist provided the offense, blasting an 0-2 pitch from Ricky Romero (1-3) over the left field wall in the top of the first inning for his fifth homer of the season. Zobrist hit a three-run homer in Saturday's 6-4 victory, and has now gone deep four times in his last nine games.

Romero was solid in defeat, limiting the Rays (11-11) to five hits in seven innings while striking out 10 and walking just one. He retired the final 10 batters he faced, seven via the strikeout.

Toronto slugger Jose Bautista lined out to third base in the fourth inning to end his streak of consecutive times reaching base at 11. That left him one shy of the franchise record set by Lyle Overbay.
