Michael Young delivered a pair of two-run doubles in a nine-run third inning and later homered as the Texas Rangers advanced to the World Series for the second straight season by whipping the visiting Detroit Tigers 15-5 in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday.

David Murphy had a two-run single as the Rangers sent 14 batters to the plate against four Detroit pitchers in the largest one-inning uprising in the franchise’s postseason history.

Nelson Cruz belted his sixth homer of the series - a two-run shot in the seventh inning - to establish a postseason record for homers in a single round. Cruz also set a record with 13 RBIs and was named ALCS Most Valuable Player.

Texas, which had 17 hits, opens World Series play Wednesday on the road against either the St. Louis Cardinals or Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals hold a 3-2 advantage in the NLCS with Game 6 on Sunday.

Young doubled in the first two runs of the third inning with a shot down the left-field line off Max Scherzer (0-1). He also drove in the final two runs of the frame with a double that landed just inside the right-field line. Young hit a solo homer in the seventh to cap off a three-hit, five-RBI performance.

Austin Jackson hit a two-run homer to pull the Tigers within 9-4 in the fifth. Miguel Cabrera homered twice and Jhonny Peralta also went deep for Detroit.

Alexei Ogando (2-0) struck out three in two innings of scoreless relief.

The Rangers lost to the San Francisco Giants in five games in the 2010 World Series.
