Red Sox 7, Phillies 5: David Ortiz launched a two-run homer and rookie Will Middlebrooks and Jarrod Saltalamacchia belted back-to-back shots in the fourth inning as visiting Boston slugged its way to its seventh win in nine outings.

Mike Aviles led off the game with his second blast in as many days for the Red Sox, who recorded their fourth four-homer contest of the season.

The offensive outburst provided a nice cushion for Jon Lester (3-3), who labored through six innings to improve to 3-0 in his career versus Philadelphia. Lester yielded four runs on eight hits before two relievers bridged the gap to Alfredo Aceves, who secured the final four outs for his ninth save.

After rookie Freddy Galvis' launched a two-run homer to trim Boston's lead to 5-4, Ortiz deposited a fastball from Joe Blanton (4-4) over the wall in center field for his ninth homer.

Boston outfielder Ryan Sweeney made a brilliant diving catch on Carlos Ruiz's blast to right center to end a Phillies' threat in the seventh.

Blanton, who permitted two homers in 51 2/3 innings entering the game, allowed a career-high four blasts before departing after 4 1/3 innings. The right-hander permitted seven runs on nine hits - and was also charged with two errors.

Hector Luna and Shane Victorino collected three hits and an RBI apiece for the Phillies, who saw their six-game winning streak come to an end after stranding 11 runners.

GAME NOTEBOOK
: Pat Burrell tossed out the ceremonial first pitch prior to the game. Burrell, who officially retired on Saturday after agreeing to a one-day contract last month, belted 292 career homers - including 251 with Philadelphia. ... Phillies manager Charlie Manuel returned to the dugout after serving his one-game suspension for his involvement in an altercation with umpire Bob Davidson in Tuesday’s game against Houston. ... Adrian Gonzalez tested the waters in right field to allow Ortiz to play at first base. Gonzalez made a sliding catch in foul territory to end a threat in the third inning. He returned to first base for defensive purposes in the ninth inning.
