Tigers 7, Blue Jays 6: Torii Hunter's RBI infield single in the eighth inning was the difference as visiting Detroit shaded Toronto.

With two outs and Omar Infante on third, Hunter hit a liner that deflected off Blue Jays reliever Neil Wagner (1-3). The ball caromed to shortstop Jose Reyes, but Hunter beat the throw to first as Infante crossed with the go-ahead run.

The rally made a winner out of Al Alburquerque (1-1), who tossed a scoreless seventh for his first major-league win since Sept. 10, 2011. Joaquin Benoit worked a perfect ninth for his sixth save.

After Colby Rasmus' two-run double helped Toronto race out to a 4-0 first-inning lead, the Tigers countered with a six-spot in the second. Infante had an RBI double, Alex Avila followed with a two-run double and Miguel Cabrera put Detroit ahead with his 26th homer – a blast off the first deck in straightaway center field.

Rasmus evened it in the bottom half with a two-run shot to center, and the teams exchanged zeroes over the next five innings. Detroit starter Doug Fister retired 13 of 14 at one point before yielding to the bullpen, while a trio of Toronto pitchers limited Detroit to two hits in relief of ineffective starter Chien-Ming Wang.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Fister was charged with six runs on seven hits over six innings. Wang allowed six runs on eight hits in 1 2/3 frames, becoming the first Toronto hurler since Dave Stieb in 1990 to surrender at least six runs while lasting two or fewer innings in back-to-back outings. ... Cabrera has six home runs over his last eight games. ... Toronto manager John Gibbons was ejected in the ninth inning after arguing that DH Munenori Kawasaki was struck on the foot by a Benoit pitch that was ruled a ball. It was Gibbons' fourth ejection of the season.
