Astros 5, Twins 4: George Springer hit a two-run homer and Marwin Gonzalez and Matt Dominguez hit solo shots as Houston defeated host Minnesota in the opener of a three-game series.

Dallas Keuchel (7-3) pitched six shutout innings to win for the fifth time in six starts as the Astros recorded their sixth consecutive road victory. Keuchel struck out six and gave up five hits and two walks while Chad Qualls worked the ninth for his seventh save.

Twins starter Phil Hughes (6-2) allowed five runs and six hits in six innings as his six-game winning streak reached an end. Danny Santana hit his first major-league homer and Eduardo Escobar had three hits for Minnesota in a contest that was delayed for one hour, 21 minutes at the start due to rain.

Gonzalez hammered a solo shot to right off Hughes in the third and Dominguez sent a blast over the center-field wall in the fourth to get Houston started. Dexter Fowler tripled to lead off the sixth and scored on Jose Altuve’s single before Springer sent an opposite-field drive over the wall in the right to make it 5-0.

Keuchel was removed after 101 pitches and reliever Tony Sipp allowed a run-scoring double to Aaron Hicks and a two-run homer to Santana in the seventh. Escobar drilled a run-scoring double off Jerome Williams in the eighth to pull Minnesota within one and Joe Mauer reached on Dominguez’s throwing error with two out in the ninth before Qualls retired Josh Willingham on a fly to left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Dominguez had three hits after going 0-for-9 over Houston’s previous two games. … Twins OF Oswaldo Arcia (ankle) was limited to pinch-hitting duty but expects to return to the lineup as the team’s designated hitter for Saturday’s contest. … Gonzalez started for the third consecutive game in place of SS Jonathan Villar (elbow).
