Brendan Rodgers had a two-run single in a three-run fourth inning and right-hander Jeff Hoffman won his first game in almost two years when the Colorado Rockies extended their winning streak to four games with a 5-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
Trevor Story had three hits and a stolen base and Hoffman went five innings for his first victory since July 16, 2017 as the Rockies (27-27) reached .500 for the first time since March 31, the fourth game of the season.
Carson Kelly had three hits including a homer and two RBIs, Adam Jones homered and Ildemaro Vargas reached base five times on two singles and three walks for the Diamondbacks, who have lost three in a row and eight of 11.
Hoffman gave up seven hits and three runs in five innings in his third start of the season, tying a season high with six strikeouts while walking two. He also drove in a run with a two-out bunt single for a 4-2 lead to cap the go-ahead fourth.
Scott Oberg pitched around a two-out walk in the ninth inning for his first save of the season.
Raimel Tapia and Story singled to open the first inning and Tapia scored on Mark Reynolds' groundout for a 1-0 lead. Tapia has a season-high eight-game hitting streak.
The first four Arizona batters hit safely to open the second inning, with Blake Swihart and Kelly contributing run-scoring singles for a 2-1 lead.
Arizona left-hander Robbie Ray (4-2) walked the bases loaded to open Colorado's three-run fourth inning and Rodgers' two-run single put the Rockies ahead. Rodgers has hit safely in seven of his nine games since being recalled two weeks ago.
Jones' 11th homer of the season in the fifth inning made it 4-3 before the Rockies scored in the bottom of the inning on two singles and an errant pickoff throw. Kelly homered in the sixth to cut Arizona's deficit to 5-4.
Ray gave up eight hits and five runs (four earned), with six strikeouts and four walks. He had not lost since April 3, his second start of the season.
