Miguel Cabrera hit the 499th home run of his career, Tarik Skubal tossed six scoreless innings and the Detroit Tigers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 on Wednesday.

The game was delayed for one hour and 10 minutes by inclement weather.

Cabrera, who had three hits and a sacrifice fly, hit a solo shot in the fifth inning. Skubal (8-10) gave up five hits and struck out six.

Skubal has pitched 11 scoreless innings over his last two starts. He gave up four runs, including three home runs, in a 5 2/3-innings outing against Baltimore on July 30 but didn't allow an extra-base hit on Wednesday.

Gregory Soto allowed two baserunners in the ninth but still notched his 14th save.

Niko Goodrum departed the game with a left groin injury after hitting a two-run double. Robbie Grossman and Jonathan Schoop each added two hits and a run scored.

Anthony Santander had a three-hit night and blasted his third homer in two games for Baltimore. Orioles starter Matt Harvey (6-11) gave up three runs on eight hits in five innings.

The Tigers left the bases loaded in the first when Harold Castro grounded out. A similar scenario played out in the third. Schoop was thrown out at home on Eric Haase's fielder's choice grounder and Castro struck out.

Cabrera broke the deadlock with one out in the fifth. He ripped a hanging Harvey curveball over the left-center wall and into the Tigers' bullpen.

That sparked a three-run inning. Jeimer Candelario hit a double and advanced on a passed ball. Haase walked but Candelario was thrown out at home on Castro's safety squeeze attempt.

Goodrum then doubled to right to knock in Haase and Castro.

Detroit added two runs in the sixth. Grossman hit a one-out single and advanced to third on Schoop's double. Cabrera brought in Grossman with a sacrifice fly. Schoop scored on Dusten Knight's wild pitch.

Santander blasted his two-run homer off Erasmo Ramirez in the eighth.
