Danny Rubin and Corey Raji keyed a pair of second-half spurts and Boston College laid claim to the unofficial Catholic championship of Massachusetts with a 69-54 victory over Holy Cross Monday evening in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The Crusaders (0-4) got within one point, 36-35, on a layup by R.J. Evans with 16:56 to go, but Rubin and Raji each scored six points during a 12-0 run that gave the Eagles (2-1) a 48-35 cushion with 13:09 left. After Holy Cross crept to within eight at the 5:55 mark, Rubin hit a three-pointer to set off another 12-0 burst that extended the lead to 20 points.
Raji and Rubin scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, to pace Boston College, which played a clean game throughout, committing just five turnovers, and shot well from outside, hitting 10 three-point shots.
Evans led four Holy Cross players in double digits with his 12 points.
