Maryland ended the pre-Christmas part of its schedule with an easy victory Wednesday, running out to a 35-point halftime lead en route to a 89-50 rout of New Jersey Tech at home.
Dino Gregory and Jordan Williams each scored 14 points to lead six Maryland players in double figures. Williams pulled down 12 rebounds. The Terrapins shot 56.6 percent from the field (30-of-53) and hit nine 3-pointers.
The Terrapins (8-4) had absolutely no trouble with the over-matched Highlanders. Maryland shook off a little bit of a slow start. Leading 8-6 six minutes in, the Terrapins scored nine of the next 11 points, getting a James Padgett layup and free throw to take a 17-8 lead.
Ahead 27-15 with seven minutes left, Maryland scored 26 of the final 29 points in the first half and never looked back, building a 53-18 halftime lead. It was more of the same in the second half, as the Terrapins led by more than 40.
Chris Flores scored 10 points for the Highlanders (2-7).
Maryland plays host to North Florida Dec. 29.
