No Ralston Turner, no problem for LSU.

Junior Garrett Green provided a team-high 18 points off the bench to lead the Tigers past Auburn 62-55 Saturday in Auburn, Ala. Green has now scored double-digit points in four of his last six games.

Turner’s replacement, of course, wasn’t too bad. Freshman Matt Derenbecker scored 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting and nabbed eight rebounds. Turner is the second-leading scorer on LSU with 13.7 points but missed the game with a stress reaction on his right foot.

The win gives LSU (9-7, 1-0 SEC) a boost going into SEC play. The Tigers struggled during their nonconference schedule, posting losses to Division I-AA Nicholls State, Wichita State and North Texas.

A poor offensive night limited Auburn (7-8, 0-1). It scored just 55 points on 19-of-61 shooting (31.1 percent) and went 9 of 15 (60 percent) at the free-throw line. The Tigers were without their second-leading scorer in Andre Malone, who left the team earlier in the week.

Earnest Ross scored a game-high 21 for Auburn, while Kenny Gabriel added 17 off the bench. No other Tiger had more than four points.
