A free throw by Lance Jeter with 0.4 seconds left in the game gave Nebraska
a 63-62 win over Iowa State in the Big 12 opener for both teams
Saturday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The game was tied 62-62 when Jeter stole the ball and drove the length of the floor before being fouled. He made the second of two free throws to give Nebraska the win.
Nebraska (13-2, 1-0 Big 12) held the lead for most of the second half before a 3-pointer by Melvin Ejum gave Iowa State a 60-57 lead with less than four minutes remaining. The Cornhuskers trailed by as many as four points before tying the game at 62 on a free throw by Toney McCray with 1:06 remaining.
Iowa State (13-3, 0-1) trailed 39-29 at halftime, but used a 16-2 run to take its first lead of the game with 14:31 left in the second half on a layup by Diante Garrett. Garrett scored a game-high 18 points to lead the Cyclones, who only had seven scholarship players in uniform because of injuries and suspension.
Caleb Walker scored 13 points to lead Nebraska, which next plays at Missouri on Wednesday.
