Maryland rode a hot-shooting performance Wednesday to a 78-62 home victory over Florida State.
Terrell Stoglin scored 17 points to lead Maryland (18-10, 7-6 ACC), which won for the seventh time in 10 games and moved into a fifth-place tie with Clemson in the ACC. Derwin Kitchen’s 16 points led Florida State (19-8, 9-4 ACC), which saw its three-game winning streak snapped.
The Seminoles came in leading the nation in opponents’ field-goal percentage at 35.7 percent. The Terrapins, first in the ACC and 19th in the nation in shooting from the field (47.9 percent), hit 25-of-48 attempts (52.1 percent) and shot 50 percent from 3-point range.
Ahead 42-39 early in the second half, the Terrapins used a 20-8 run to take control. Stoglin scored seven points during the run and Dino Gregory added six. Two Adrian Bowie free throws with 9:56 left capped the run and gave Maryland a 62-47 advantage.
Maryland plays Sunday at No. 19 North Carolina. Florida State plays host to Miami on Saturday.
