Nolan Smith had 21 points and seven assists in his final home game as No. 4 Duke pulled away for a 70-59 win over Clemson on Wednesday night in Durham, N.C. to set up a showdown for the ACC regular-season title Saturday against arch-rival North Carolina.
The Blue Devils (27-3, 13-2 ACC) scored eight straight points to take the lead for good, 46-38, with 15:01 remaining. Clemson got as close as two before a 10-2 spurt gave Duke a 60-50 advantage with 5:36 to go.
Seth Curry and senior Kyle Singler added 18 points each for the Blue Devils, who will have to beat the No. 13 Tar Heels at North Carolina to take the top seed in the conference tournament.
Demontez Stitt paced Clemson (19-10, 8-7) with 14 points. The Tigers hit just 4-of-19 3-point shots overall and were held to 8-of-34 shooting (23.5 percent) in the second half.
