Casey Mitchell hit his sixth 3-pointer with 3.8 seconds to lead West Virginia to a 74-71 victory, Friday in semifinal action at the Honda Puerto Rico Tip-off in San Juan.

Mitchell finished with a career-high 31 points and helped the Mountaineers (3-0) advance to Sunday's championship game against the winner of Minnesota-North Carolina.

Vanderbilt's Rod Odom missed a potential tying 3-pointer as time expired, sending the Commodores (2-1) into the loser's bracket, where they'll face the loser of the Gophers and Tar Heels.

West Virginia led throughout the game but couldn't pull away from Vanderbilt. The Commodores erased an 11-point halftime deficit and took a 54-53 lead on Odom's basket with nine minutes to play.

Vanderbilt made its run without All-SEC forward Jeffery Taylor, who sat most of the second half in foul trouble and eventually fouled out.

With Taylor out, John Jenkins stepped up for the Commodores. His fifth 3-pointer of the game tied the game at 68 with 1:51 to play. Jenkins finished with 27 points.

Mitchell would answer Vanderbilt's challenge with four 3-pointers, including the game-winner, in the second half to help the Mountaineers preserve the win.
