Shabazz Napier and Jeremy Lamb combined for 41 points and No. 4 Connecticut dominated on the boards to put away visiting Wagner 78-66 on Monday.
Napier scored 21 points and Lamb had 20 for the Huskies (2-0), who had a 42-24 advantage off the glass. Alex Oriakhi led the Huskies with nine rebounds.
Latif Rivers, despite 2-for-13 shooting, led Wagner (1-1) with 11 points and Tyler Murray had 10 – all in the first half.
The Seahawks led 17-16 just past the 10-minute mark, but the Huskies turned up the intensity on defense and put together a 12-3 run to take control. Highly touted freshman Andre Drummond blocked two shots on one Wagner possession.
Lamb had 14 points and Napier added 10 as the Huskies extended their lead to 41-28 at the half. The Seahawks managed a 12-2 run to pull within 61-53, but UConn did not let them get closer.
Wagner, which beat Princeton in its opener, is coached by former Seton Hall standout Danny Hurley. His brother Bobby, a former All-American from Duke, is his assistant.
