Jorge Gutierrez scored 14 points and No. 22 California remained unbeaten Tuesday with a dominant 72-55 win over visiting Austin Peay in a sub-regional game of the Progressive CBE Classic.
Harper Kamp added 12 points and nine rebounds for California (3-0), which led 40-13 at halftime. Austin Peay (0-2) shot 23-of-62 (37 percent) from the field overall and just 17 percent in the first half.
California's Allen Crabbe, who led the team in scoring in the Golden Bears' first two games, finished with just five points against the Governors. David Kravish added 12 points and Brandon Smith added 11.
Playing without starting center John Fraley (concussion), Austin Peay was outrebounded 33-27. The Governors were just 2-of-17 shooting from beyond the arc, the though Bears were also misfiring on 3-pointers at 1-for-12.
Austin Peay forward Melvin Baker, who was benched for the entire first half because of disciplinary reasons, finished with 12 points and six rebounds. The Governors fell to 0-18 against ranked teams since 2000.
