Jarvis Summers and Dundrecous Nelson each scored 14 points as Mississippi came from behind in the second half for a 63-59 victory over Drake in the first round of the Paradise Jam Friday at St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The Rebels (3-0) turned a six-point deficit into a six-point lead late before Drake battled back to have a chance to tie in the final seconds.
Ben Simons led Drake (2-1) with 22 points.
Ole Miss will play the winner of the later game between Winthrop and Marquette in the semifinals Sunday. Drake plays the loser in the consolation round.
Simons made 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 beyond the 3-point arc to help Drake to a 31-25 halftime lead with 14 points. The Bulldogs built a 21-11 lead, watched Ole Miss come back with an 11-0 run, and then finished the half strong. Ole Miss had 14 turnovers and Drake 10 in the first half.
The Rebels allowed just 39 and 38 points in its first two games. Drake scored an average of 78.5 in its first two. It was the first meeting ever between the two schools.
