Erick Green scored 19 points and Dorian Finney-Smith fueled the decisive run early in the second half, helping Virginia Tech hold on for a 73-64 home win over St. Bonaventure.
Finney-Smith scored seven of his 11 points during a 14-4 surge that put the Hokies (5-1) in front, 36-25, with 16:40 remaining. The Bonnies (2-2) fought back, getting as close as three when Michael Davenport hit a 3-pointer with 7:33 left, but Virginia Tech scored the next five points and maintained at least a five-point cushion the rest of the way.
Vic tor Davila added 13 points for the Hokies, who never trailed despite being outrebounded by eight and outscored in the paint, 30-24. Finney-Smith finished with a team-high eight boards.
Demitrius Conger scored 23 points on 8-for-10 shooting to pace St. Bonaventure in defeat. The visitors shot 38 percent and made just 5-of-16 3-point attempts.
