Dion Dixon scored 19 points, including three late 3-pointers, as Cincinnati handed host Georgia its third straight defeat 57-51 on Friday.
Sean Kilpatrick hit four 3-pointers and scored a game-high 22 points for the Bearcats (5-2), who scored only 21 points in the first half and trailed by 11 two minutes into the second half.
Despite going more than six minutes without scoring, Georgia (4-4) led 43-40 on Marcus Thornton’s free throw with 5:59 remaining before Dixon hit three consecutive 3-pointers as Cincinnati built a 49-43 advantage with 2:44 remaining.
Kilpatrick’s 3-pointer with 23 seconds left gave Cincinnati a 53-46 advantage. The Bearcats finished 9-for-20 from 3-point range.
The Bearcats went scoreless for nearly 10 minutes of the first half as Georgia went on a 12-0 run. Cashmere Wright’s 3-pointer gave Cincinnati a 9-3 lead with 16:17 left. The Bearcats didn’t score again until Kilpatrick’s 3-pointer with 6:52 to go in the half.
Georgia freshman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 16 points, 13 in the first half. He did not score in the second half until hitting a 3-pointer with 8.8 seconds left.
