Ramone Moore scored 23 of his career-high 32 points in the second half to lead Temple to a 78-67 victory over visiting Villanova in a Philadelphia Big 5 matchup on Saturday.
Khalif Wyatt added 13 points and Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson chipped 11 points and 14 rebounds for the Owls (6-2), who have won three straight and moved to 2-0 in the Big 5.
The Wildcats loss was just the second in their last 15 meetings with Big 5 schools. Villanova had previously beaten La Salle and Pennsylvania in Big 5 play this season.
Villanova trailed by as many as eight points in the first half but came back to take a 36-35 lead at the break.
Temple started to make its move with 8:25 left in the game, when T.J. DiLeo’s layup sparked a 10-0 run. Moore had six points during the burst as the Owls opened up a 64-54 lead.
The Wildcats went over four minutes without a field goal.
Moore and Aaron Brown combined for eight points in the final 2:02 to seal in.
Maalik Wayns finished with 23 points and seven assists to lead Villanova (5-4), which has dropped four of five.
