The last time Alabama played at Coleman Coliseum, it had its 24-game home win streak snapped. Sunday, the No. 16 Crimson Tide began what it hopes will be a new streak with a 62-54 win over Detroit.
JaMychal Green scored 21 points and Tony Mitchell added 15 for Alabama (8-2), which snapped a two-game skid.
When the Tide went cold at the start of the second half, Detroit (5-7) climbed back in and sliced an 18-point deficit to nine with 11 minutes to play. The hosts pushed the lead back to 14 at 53-39 when Trevor Lacey fed Mitchell for an alley-oop reverse dunk.
Alabama scored 12 of the first 13 points of the game. Detroit didn’t make a field goal until more than six minutes had passed. The Tide pushed its lead to as many as 22 points thanks to Green and Mitchell, who combined to outscore the Titans 23-22 in the first half.
Detroit, which shot just 28 percent from the field against one of the nation's top defenses, got 13 points from Ray McCallum and 12 from Doug Anderson.
