Mike Scott collected 17 points, six rebounds and three assists as No. 24 Virginia coasted to a 69-42 victory over visiting Maryland-Eastern Shore on Tuesday.
Darion Atkins chipped in 13 points off the bench and Joe Harris scored 10 points for the Cavaliers (11-1), who have won nine straight games.
Virginia, which had two players transfer last week reportedly due to a lack of playing time, has two more games to get its rotation solidified in advance of ACC play. The Cavaliers will get a stiff non-conference test at LSU on Jan. 2 before opening the ACC portion of the schedule against Miami on Jan. 7.
One of the best defensive teams in the country, Virginia had no trouble shutting down the Hawks on Tuesday, holding them to 28 percent (15 of 54) shooting while forcing 12 turnovers. The Cavaliers are limiting opponents to an average of 50.3 points overall.
Harris began the game with a 3-pointer and Scott dunked to cap a 9-0 run out of the gate. Virginia led, 30-20, at the half and quickly spread it out after the break.
Hillary Haley was the only player to reach double figures with 11 points for Maryland-Eastern Shore (3-10).
