Douglas Davis’s 3-pointer with 1:22 to play put Princeton ahead for good as the Tigers needed three overtime periods to hand Florida State its first home loss of the season, 75-73, in Tallahassee.
Ian Hummer posted his fourth double-double of the season with 25 points and 15 rebounds and Davis added 25 points of his own for the Tigers (7-7), who fended off a second half rally by the Seminoles (8-5) and withstood a trio of back-and-forth extra frames to notch their fourth road victory of the season.
Princeton led by as much as 19 in the first half and carried a 27-10 lead into halftime but Florida State was able to battle back on the strength of 14 points off nine second half Tiger turnovers, outscoring the Tigers 37-20 down the stretch to force overtime.
Michael Snaer led the Seminoles offensively with 20 points while Ian Miller (17) and Luke Loucks (10) also hit double figures. Miller scored seven points, had two steals and added a block in the second overtime period but the comeback effort ultimately fell short.
This was Florida State's second loss to an Ivy League school this season, having fallen at the hands of Harvard in late November in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas. The Seminoles are now 0-3 all-time against the Tigers.
Princeton will remain in Tallahassee for a New Year’s Day meeting with Florida A&M while Florida State has a few days to regroup before a midweek visit from Auburn concludes its non-conference schedule.
