Ron Anderson Jr. had six of his team-high 14 points down the stretch as South Florida scored 14 of the game’s last 17 points for a 56-55 victory over visiting Seton Hall on Friday.
Jawanza Poland tied the game at 53 on a 3-pointer with 2:28 remaining and Toarlyn Fitzpatrick’s three-point play put the Bulls (10-8, 3-2 Big East) ahead for good with 55.5 seconds left.
Senior Jordan Theodore recorded a game-high 16 points for Seton Hall (15-3, 4-2), but missed the front end of a one-and-one free throw with 3.2 seconds left. Freshman Haralds Karlis added a career-high 12 for the Pirates, who saw their four-game win streak end.
South Florida led much of the first half, but trailed by three before Poland’s 3-pointer in the final seconds tied it at 27 at halftime.
Herb Pope had seven of his 10 points early in the opening 20 minutes for Seton Hall and Theodore added seven points and four steals for the Pirates. South Florida shot 50 percent from the field in the first half (11-for-22), but turned the ball over 12 times. The Bulls have held their last 13 opponents to 30 points or less before halftime.
It was the second win in 10 tries against Seton Hall for South Florida.
