No. 17 Virginia used its trademark suffocating defense to embarrass host Georgia Tech 70-38 Thursday.

Virginia, which came in allowing an ACC-low 51.1 points per game, won its fifth straight over Georgia Tech by holding the Yellow Jackets to 29 percent shooting.

The Cavaliers (15-2, 2-1 ACC) matched their best start to a season in 29 years behind Mike Scott’s 18 points and seven rebounds.

Virginia sank 13 of its first 19 shots en route to a 35-17 halftime lead. It was the Jackets’ lowest-scoring half all season. Tech’s 38 total points also marked a season low.

Georgia Tech has lost four straight home games for the first time in 31 years.

The Jackets (8-10, 1-3 ACC) got outrebounded 40-22 and fell to 0-6 when losing the rebounding battle. Kammeon Holsey led Tech with 12 points, the only Jacket to reach double figures.
