Matthew Dellavedova scored 26 points and Jorden Page added 19 as No. 23 Saint Mary’s received a strong challenge from host Santa Clara before prevailing 93-77 on Saturday.
Brad Waldow had 14 points and 17 rebounds and Rob Jones added 14 points and 15 rebounds as the Gaels (19-2, 8-0 West Coast Conference) won their ninth consecutive contest.
Niyi Harrison scored 23 points and Kevin Foster had 22 for Santa Clara (8-10, 0-5), which lost its sixth straight game.
Page scored eight points during a pivotal 13-0 run that saw Saint Mary’s pull away en route to their ninth victory in the last 10 meetings with the Broncos.
Santa Clara led 66-65 after Harrison’s layup with 9:38 left before Saint Mary’s asserted control with its decisive spurt. Page hit two 3-pointers during the run, including the one that culminated the surge with 5:43 remaining to give the Gaels a 12-point lead.
Foster had five 3-pointers and moved into fourth place in Santa Clara history with 1,691 career points. He passed NBA products Dennis Awtrey (1,675) and Steve Nash (1,689) on Saturday.
Evan Roquemore added 13 points for the Broncos.
Foster had four first-half 3-pointers among 15 points as the Broncos led 47-46 at halftime.
