Stephen Holt scored 19 points and No. 20 Saint Mary’s registered its 10th consecutive victory by downing host Loyola Marymount, 71-64 Thursday in West Coast Conference play.
Matthew Dellavedova had 13 points and seven assists and Rob Jones added 11 points and 15 rebounds for his 14thdouble-double of the season for the Gaels (20-2, 9-0 WCC).
Drew Viney scored 18 points, Anthony Ireland tallied 15 points and Ashley Hamilton added 14 for Loyola Marymount (12-9, 5-3 WCC).
The Lions pulled within 54-48 on Ireland’s 3-point basket with 8:40 to play but the Gaels answered with an 8-2 run to get the lead back up to 12 and went on to wrap up their 11th straight victory over Loyola Marymount.
The Lions dominated an 11-minute stretch of the first half to turn an early five-point deficit into a 29-23 lead with 5:13 left. But Saint Mary’s responded with 12 consecutive points en route to a 35-31 halftime lead.
The Gaels then scored the first 10 points of the second half to take a game-best 45-31 advantage. Saint Mary’s outscored Loyola Marymount 22-2 over a 9½-minute span.
Saint Mary’s had a 39-24 rebounding edge over the Lions, who lost for just the second time in six games.
