Hugh Robertson and Anthony Collins each scored 15 points to lead a balanced attack as South Florida came back from a six-point deficit in the second half to defeat visiting Providence 81-78 on Sunday.
The Bulls (13-9, 6-3 Big East) trailed 53-47 before scoring 16 of the next 17 points to take control. Providence got within two points in the final seconds, but never had a chance to tie it.
Providence freshman LaDontae Henton scored a career-high 33 points, but was held to one field-goal attempt the first 16 minutes of the second half. Bryce Cotton finished with 16 points for the Friars (12-10, 1-8), who have lost four straight.
Ron Anderson Jr. had 14 points, Toarlyn Fitzpatrick 13 and Augustus Gilchrist 11 for the Bulls, who matched their second-highest point total of the season. Collins’ 15 points were a career high.
Henton made 8 of 12 from the field in the first half to score 24 points. The Friars led by as much as seven in the opening 20 minutes, but South Florida scored 10 of the last 13 points – six by Robertson – to tie it 39-39 at halftime.
The Bulls, who shot 51.8 percent from the field, improved to 11-1 at home.
