Michael Dixon scored 21 points off the bench, including the go-ahead basket in the final minute, and No. 4 Missouri narrowly avoided a second upset in less than a week with a 67-66 victory at Texas on Monday night.

Dixon hit his first eight shots from the field and finished 9-of-10 from the field for the Tigers (20-2, 7-2 Big 12), who pulled to within a half-game of first-place Kansas in the suddenly tight Big 12 race.

After Missouri saw its 10-point lead evaporate in the final five minutes of the game, Dixon drove from halfcourt and threw up a running left-handed floater while falling out of bounds. The shot banked off the glass and in, giving the Tigers a one-point lead with 31 seconds left.

Texas (13-9, 3-6 Big 12) had one final chance to win the game, but freshman Myck Kabongo was short on a baseline runner, and then Missouri’s Marcus Denmon snatched the rebound as time expired.

All of the Longhorns’ conference losses have come against the top five teams in the Big 12, and all of them have been by single digits.

J’Covan Brown had 20 points to lead Texas, which won the rebounding battle 35-23.

The Longhorns trailed 27-22 at halftime and fell behind 63-53 when Missouri’s Kim English connected on a corner 3-pointer with 4:46 remaining, but they responded with a 13-2 spurt to take the lead on a Brown bank shot with just less than a minute left.

Phil Pressey and Ricardo Ratliffe chipped in 13 points apiece for the Tigers.
