Alabama 62, Tennessee 50: Freshman Trevor Lacey led the way with 18 points on Saturday, as a shorthanded Alabama team snapped Tennessee’s four-game winning streak.
The Tide (17-9, 6-6) won despite playing without the suspended duo of JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell, the team’s two leading scorers. Point guard Trevor Releford also was held out of the starting lineup due to injury, but he came off the bench to tally 13 points.
The road loss marked a major step back for Tennessee, which saw its four-game winning streak come to a screeching halt. The Vols shot less than 30 percent from the floor in the second half, and 4-of-20 from 3-point range for the game.
Jeronne Maymon scored 20 points and Trae Golden 12 for the Vols (14-13, 6-6).
GAME NOTEBOOK: Skylar McBee, who had reached double figures in three straight games and four of five for Tennessee, was held scoreless. … Vols guard Jordan McRae took a hard hit on a scary fall in the second half but left under his own power. … Alabama generated plenty of second-chance opportunities in the first half with nine of its 20 boards coming off the offensive glass. … Nineteen of Alabama’s points came off Tennessee turnovers.
