Freshman Cezar Guerrero scored a career-high 29 points as Oklahoma State staged a furious rally in regulation and edged visiting Texas-San Antonio 90-85 in overtime on Wednesday in the second round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off.
Oklahoma State (3-0) trailed by 11 with 2:12 remaining. In a seven-second stretch, Guerrero converted a three-point play, stole the ball on the following possession and drilled a 3-pointer to tie the game at 77 with 12 seconds left and force overtime.
The Cowboys defeated the Roadrunners for the ninth straight time in as many tries and extended their home winning streak against non-conference opponents to 34 games. They will meet Stanford in the semifinals at Madison Square Garden next week.
Guerrero, who fell one 3-pointer short of tying the school record, drilled his seventh and eighth 3-pointers over a 56-second span late in the extra period to help secure the victory.
Michael Hale III, who staged an intriguing battle of undersized point guards with Guerrero, finished with 26 points for the Roadrunners (2-1).
Le'Bryan Nash had 18 points and nine rebounds for Oklahoma State.
