Kentucky 60, LSU 51: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist collected 19 points and eight rebounds and the Wildcats used their prowess at the defensive end to advance to the semifinals of the SEC tournament.
Anthony Davis recorded 12 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks and Terrence Jones chipped in a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards for top seed Kentucky (31-1), which will face either Alabama or Florida on Saturday.
The Wildcats, who extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 23 games, held No. 8 seed Louisiana State to 29 percent shooting and blocked nine shots.
The Tigers (18-14) took the lead early in the second half before Jones went to work, scoring nine straight points to set Kentucky back on top, 39-35, with 12:10 left. The freshman tandem of Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist took it from there, combining for 13 points over the next six minutes to keep the Wildcats in the lead.
LSU failed to score in the final 3:45 as the Wildcats overcame their own shooting woes by locking down on the defensive end.
The Tigers looked like an NCAA tournament team in the middle of February but have lost four of their last five to fall off the bubble.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Storm Warren scored 14 points on 6-of-15 shooting to lead LSU … Kentucky had 23 more free throw attempts (33-10) than the Tigers … Wildcats PG Marquis Teague went 0 for 5 from the floor and committed four turnovers.
