Oregon State 78, Montana State 65: Joe Burton scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting and hauled in 10 rebounds as the host Beavers defeated the Bobcats in the Nike N7 Game.
Burton scored 16 points in the first half, keying a crucial 21-7 run which helped Oregon State (4-1) pull away. Ahmad Starks tallied 14 points and nine rebounds while Eric Moreland chipped in with 11 points and 10 boards.
Antonio Biglow led Montana State (1-3) with 14 points and Flavien Davis added 12 and nine rebounds.
With the score tied midway into the first half, the Beavers scored 10 unanswered points as Olaf Schaftenaar’s 3-pointer pushed the lead to 34-24 with 5:01 left in the first half. Burton converted three close-range shots to give Oregon State a 45-31 lead at the break.
Two Xavier Blunt free throws pulled the Bobcats within 58-51 with 11:13 left, but another Schaftenaar 3-pointer sparked a 12-2 run as the Beavers cruised to victory.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Montana State shot just 30.0 percent from the field. … Oregon State blocked 11 shots while the Bobcats did not record a single one. … Devon Collier finished with seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and four blocks coming off the bench for the Beavers.
