No. 3 Michigan 73, Western Michigan 41: Trey Burke had 20 points and seven assists and Nik Stauskas added 11 points as the Wolverines snapped the visiting Broncos’ six-game winning streak.
Mitch McGary had 10 points for the Wolverines (8-0), who never trailed and used an 18-4 run to lead 30-15 with 3:24 left in the first half. Michigan led by 21 with nine minutes to play.
Freshman Darius Paul recorded his first double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Western Michigan (6-2), which committed 16 turnovers and shot 11.8 percent (2-of-17) from 3-point range.
The Wolverines won despite a quiet game from Tim Hardaway Jr., who scored nine points on 3-for-10 shooting. Hardaway entered the game averaging 16.6 points for Michigan, which improved to 8-0 for the first time since 1996-97.
Stauskas was 3-for-4 from 3-point range and is shooting 21-for-33 (63.6 percent) overall. The reigning back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week added four assists in his second career start.
