Butler 88, No. 1 Indiana 86 (OT): Alex Barlow's jumper in the lane with 2.5 seconds remaining gave the Bulldogs a stunning overtime win over the No. 1 Hoosiers at the Crossroads Classic.
The win was the first-ever in school history for Butler (8-2) over a No. 1-ranked team in four tries. Rotnei Clarke paced five players in double figures, leading the Bulldogs with 19 points, including five 3-pointers.
Butler had rallied from a seven-point second half deficit to take a 71-64 lead after a layup by Andrew Smith with 2:25 remaining in regulation before Indiana (9-1) staged a furious rally, ending the game on a 12-5 run in the final 2:03. Yogi Ferrell's 3-pointer with 6.1 seconds left sent the game into overtime.
The Hoosiers looked poised to take command and led 84-80 in the extra session before 3-pointers from Clarke and Chase Stigall gave Butler a 86-84 lead late. Cody Zeller, who shared team-high scoring honors for Indiana with 18 points, tied the game on a layup with 19.3 remaining, setting the stage for Barlow's game-winner.
Roosevelt Jones had his first career double-double for Butler with 16 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out with 2:03 left in regulation. Jones also added seven assists. Smith added 12 points and nine boards for the Bulldogs before he was disqualified with 1:46 remaining.
Victor Oladipo also tallied 18 for Indiana, which shot just 42.9 percent from the field.
NOTEBOOK: Butler improved to 2-1 against teams from the Big Ten this season and 10-4 all-time against the conference under Brad Stevens. ... Indiana enjoyed a 27-11 advantage from the free throw line in the game, but was outrebounded by Butler, 37-31. The Hoosiers came into the game enjoying a plus-13.8 rebound margin. ... Butler has now won five straight games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis, home of the NBA's Indiana Pacers.
