Iowa 80, Northern Iowa 73: Roy Devyn Marble scored 30 points to lead the Hawkeyes past the in-state rival Panthers in the first game of the inaugural Hy-Vee Big 4 Classic.
Marble finished with four 3-pointers, including three in the first half, and scored the most points by a Hawkeye this season. Mike Gesell added a career-high 23 points as Iowa (9-2) won its fourth straight game.
Deon Mitchell led the Panthers (6-4) with 23 points and Seth Tuttle added 18.
Gesell went made his first three attempts and was 4-of-6 from the 3-point line. The Hawkeyes hit nine 3-pointers in the first half on the way to a 40-32 halftime lead.
The Panthers used a 6-0 run to get within five points early in the second half and Mitchell's jumper with 25 seconds left cut the lead to 74-69 but UNI never got closer.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Marble set a record for the most points scored in a Division I men's basketball game at Wells Fargo Arena. ... Iowa leads the series 34-9. ... UNI's Marc Sonnen was held without a 3-pointer for the first time in 20 games.
