Nebraska 68, Nicholls State 59: Brandon Ubel scored 18 points and the host Cornhuskers held off a late charge by the Colonels.
Ubel took just eight shots and made a career-best 10 free throws for the Cornhuskers (9-4), who were 20-of-33 from the line. Dylan Talley and David Rivers added 12 points apiece for Nebraska, which escaped the upset despite going without a field goal for the final 5:51.
Dantrell Thomas scored 18 points for Nicholls State (1-9). Reserve Amin Torres added 12 points for the Colonels, who dropped their seventh straight game.
Nebraska scored the game's first eight points but had just a 10-5 lead midway through the first half. After the Colonels got within 12-10 on Jeremy Smith's 3-pointer with 9:04 left, they went 5:23 without a field goal and Nebraska reeled off 13 straight points, capped by Talley's 3-pointer with 4:47 left before halftime.
Nebraska's lead was reduced to four points on two occasions in the final 64 seconds, but it sealed the victory by making its final 10 foul shots.
