No. 3 Arizona 92, Colorado 83 (OT): Mark Lyons scored 24 points and the host Wildcats rallied from a 17-point first-half deficit, downing the Buffaloes in overtime in a wild Pac-12 opener for both teams.
Arizona (13-0, 1-0) trailed 30-13 in the first half, but rallied to tie the game on two Lyons’ free throws with 9.2 seconds left in regulation. Colorado (10-3, 0-1) hurried downcourt and Sabatino Chen banked home a 3-pointer as time expired. But after video review, game officials ruled the shot left Chen’s hand just after the buzzer.
In overtime, Kevin Parrom scored Arizona’s first five points and Lyons’ three-point play with 1:09 remaining helped the Wildcats improve to 13-0 for the first time since the 1931-32 season.
Tied at 6-6 three minutes in, Colorado used a 15-1 surge to build a 21-7 lead with 8:53 left in the first half. Askia Booker hit four 3-pointers and scored 18 points to lead the Buffaloes, who shot 10-for-21 from 3-point range but were just 17 of 29 from the free-throw line.
Parrom scored 16 points off the bench for Arizona. The Wildcats hit 26 of 34 free-throw attempts, Lyons finishing 10-for-10.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado’s Andre Roberson, third in the nation in rebounding at 12.1, finished with 11 boards before fouling out with 1:15 remaining. … Colorado hit just 3 of 8 free-throw attempts in the final 1:44 of regulation. … Arizona remains one of only four unbeaten teams left in Division I, along with Duke, Michigan and Wyoming.
