Marquette 69, Seton Hall 62: Davante Gardner scored 17 points, helping the host Golden Eagles remain one of three undefeated teams in Big East play.

Todd Mayo added 12 points and Jamil Wilson chipped in 10 as the three players supplied all 39 of Marquette’s points off the bench. The Golden Eagles (13-3, 4-0 Big East) won their sixth straight game and kept pace with Louisville and Syracuse atop the conference standings.

Aaron Cosby scored 15 points and Haralds Karlis tallied 14 for shorthanded Seton Hall (12-6, 1-4), which dressed just eight players due to a number of injuries.

Despite holding the Pirates to four made field goals over the first 11:55, the Golden Eagles led 13-12 after a 3-pointer by Karlis. That shot was the final basket of the half for Seton Hall, which shot 23.5 percent in the opening 20 minutes and allowed Marquette to hold a 26-16 lead at the break.

The Pirates provided a much better offensive showing after intermission, pulling to within 40-39 after a pair of free throws from Karlis with 9:09 left. But a three-point play by Gardner and two 3-pointers extended Marquette’s margin back to eight points as Seton Hall’s short bench caught up to it down the stretch.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Marquette is 4-0 in league play for the fourth time since the program began conference affiliation in 1989-90. … Seton Hall had nearly three times as many turnovers in the first half (11) as made field goals (four). … Starters Eugene Teague and Fuquan Edwin each fouled out in the final minutes, leaving the team with six available players at the end of the game.
