UTEP 68, Nebraska 52: Konner Tucker drilled five 3-pointers and finished with 17 points as the Miners ran out to a 20-point halftime lead and held on to defeat the Cornhuskers in the Sun Bowl Invitational championship game.
Jacques Streeter added 17 while John Bohannon chipped in seven and 11 rebounds for UTEP (6-5), which outscored Nebraska (8-4) by a 36-16 margin in the opening half.
Ray Gallegos led the Cornhuskers with a career-high 22 points. Brandon Ubel scored 11 in the loss.
Tucker had eight points - including two 3-pointers - as UTEP scored the first 13 points of the game. After Nebraska pulled as close as nine, the Miners went on a 10-0 run - keyed by a Streeter four-point play - to push the cushion to 36-14 with 56 seconds left in the first half
Gallegos' dunk and Andre Almeida's jumper capped a 9-2 run to cut the Cornhuskers' deficit to 60-49 with 3:27 left. Tucker made a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left to seal the UTEP victory.
GAME NOTEBOOK: UTEP was 8-for-17 (47.1 percent) on 3-pointers while Nebraska made just 2 of 13 (15.4 percent). ... The Miners outrebounded the Cornhuskers 35-29. ... UTEP defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 83-61 on Saturday night to reach the final.
