St. John’s 67, Bucknell 63: Phil Greene scored 16 points and D'Angelo Harrison added 12 as the Red Storm rallied to defeat the visiting Bison.

JaKarr Sampson collected 11 points and six rebounds for St. John’s (2-1), which trailed by as many as nine points early in the second half. Greene made back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Red Storm ahead 46-45 with 12:05 remaining and the Bison struggled offensively after a strong start.

Cameron Ayers led Bucknell (2-2) with 25 points and Brian Fitzpatrick added 12. The Bison led 35-32 at the half after shooting 53.6 percent from the field and outscoring St. John’s in the paint 20-12.

The Red Storm switched to a zone defense early in the second half and cut the deficit to 51-50 with 9:45 remaining when Chris Obekpa’s dunk sparked an 11-0 run. Obekpa had six points, six rebounds and seven blocked shots for St. John’s, which finished with 13 blocks.

Bucknell closed to within 63-59 on Dom Hoffman’s layup with 37 seconds to play, but St. John’s made four of its final six attempts from the foul line to secure the win. The Red Storm were 4-of-15 from 3-point range after missing 21 of their first 23 shots from beyond the arc in their first two games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Harrison, who entered the game averaging a team-high 26 points, missed 10 of his 13 shots, including six of seven from 3-point range. … Bucknell fell to 13-34 all-time against teams that currently comprise the Big East. … Hoffman scored 10 points for the Bison, who outrebounded the Red Storm 35-32.
