Jose Alvarado scored 21 points and Michael Devoe added 20 to help Georgia Tech turn back visiting Boston College 81-78 in overtime in their Atlantic Coast Conference matchup on Sunday in Atlanta.
Boston College's Jared Hamilton hit a jumper to pull the Eagles to within 80-78 with 16 seconds left, and freshman Khalid Moore hit one of two free throws with 10.3 records left to extend the lead.
Boston College senior Ky Bowman had his well-defended last-second 3-pointer roll around the rim and fall out as the buzzer sounded.
Devoe had five points, including a big 3-pointer, and Alvarado scored three in overtime. Georgia Tech missed plenty of opportunities to put the game away at the line in overtime. The Yellow Jackets were 4-for-8 on free throws.
Boston College tied the game 70-70 when Bowman made both ends of a one-and-one with 30.4 seconds remaining in regulation. Georgia Tech played for the final shot, but Curtis Haywood's straight-on 3-pointer was too strong, sending the game to overtime.
Georgia Tech (13-17, 5-12 ACC) also got 18 points and nine rebounds from center James Banks III, who fouled out in regulation. Moses Wright scored 10.
Boston College (14-14, 5-11) was led by Nik Popovic with 24 points and nine rebounds. Jordan Chatman scored 15 and Bowman scored 13.
Boston College led by as many as eight points when Bowman made a jumper at 11:32 for a 21-13 lead. Georgia Tech roared back to take the lead thanks to the 3-point shooting of Alvarado, who made three treys during a stretch that saw the Yellow Jackets outscore the Eagles 16-4.
Georgia Tech finished the first half with a 40-33 lead thanks to three three-point plays in the final two minutes. Alvarado was fouled on a layup and made the free throw. James Banks converted two and-ones, one on a dunk.
Georgia Tech finished the half with its most first-half points and largest first-half lead against an ACC opponent.
Boston College trailed by as many as nine points in the second half. The Eagles took the lead 65-63 on Popovic's basket with 4:28 remaining, part of an 11-1 run. There were four lead changes and three ties in the final 5:33.
Boston College will North Carolina on Tuesday. Georgia Tech travels to North Carolina State for its final regular-season game on Wednesday.
