Toumani Camara made a go-ahead free throw with 15 seconds to play and a game-saving block on the ensuing possession to lift Georgia to a 73-70 victory over Vanderbilt on Saturday in Athens, Ga.
Sahvir Wheeler collected 16 points and nine assists and P.J. Horne added 14 points for the Bulldogs (12-6, 5-6 SEC), who overcame 21 turnovers to record their third straight victory.
Wheeler made 8 of 10 shots from the floor and Horne sank 5 of 6 from the field, including 4 of 5 from 3-point range.
Dylan Disu had 15 points and Jordan Wright and Scotty Pippen Jr. each added 12 for the Commodores (5-9, 1-7), who have lost seven of their last eight games.
Pippen used a spin move to create an opening for a layup to forge a tie at 70 with 44 seconds left in the second half. Camara was fouled by Disu and made one of two from the charity stripe before blocking Pippen's bid for the go-ahead basket with five seconds remaining.
Camara finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Vanderbilt enjoyed a fast start to the second half, scoring 13 of the first 19 points to pull even at 50. Disu scored the Commodores' next nine points to tie it up once again with 8:22 remaining in the second half.
Both teams shot the ball well in the first half. Georgia made 65.4 percent of its attempts (17 of 26) while Vanderbilt sank 52.2 percent of its shots (12 of 23).
The Bulldogs drained six of their nine attempts from 3-point range to secure a 44-37 lead at halftime. Horne made all three of his attempts from beyond the arc while Justin Kier and K.D. Johnson also connected from distance to highlight a 14-2 surge late in the first half.
Camara scored the other five points in that pivotal stretch to pace Georgia to a 44-35 lead before Pippen sank a pair of free throws to conclude the scoring in the first half.
