Sophomore quarterback Brock Purdy passed for 372 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for another score Saturday as No. 22 Iowa State survived six lead changes in a 41-31 victory over Kansas at Ames, Iowa.

Purdy, who completed 29 of 42 passes, set Iowa State single-season records for passing yardage, total offense, completions and touchdown passes in the final home game for the Cyclones (7-4, 5-3 Big 12).

The teams traded touchdowns early in the fourth quarter before Iowa State went ahead for keeps with a 5-yard touchdown rush by Purdy with 5:10 remaining.

Kansas (3-8, 1-7) then threw four straight incomplete passes after quarterback Carter Stanley had seemingly found his rhythm with three touchdown strikes in the second half as part of a 328-yard performance.

Iowa State took over with 4:14 left at the Kansas 37. Purdy then responded to a fourth-and-goal situation with a 4-yard pass to Sean Shaw Jr. with 1:09 remaining.

Iowa State freshman Breece Hall had 97 yards on 28 carries, including a touchdown. Charlie Kolar and La'Michael Pettway each had six catches for 100 and 96 yards, respectively. Pettway scored twice.

Kansas, which dropped its 45th consecutive Big 12 road game, scored two touchdowns within a 77-second span late in the third quarter.

Pooka Williams Jr. sailed in from 27 yards to cap a 62-yard march that began after a fourth-down defensive stop.

Safety Mike Lee then snagged an interception off a pass deflected by teammate Jay Dineen. The Jayhawks moved 38 yards in four plays as Stanley hit fullback Spencer Roe for a 2-yard TD before Stanley fired to Andrew Parchment for a two-point conversion and a 24-21 lead.

Williams, a sophomore, gained 154 yards on 19 carries, reaching the 2,000-yard career mark faster than any Jayhawk since Gale Sayers (1962-63).

The Cyclones overcame three first-half drives that resulted in three-and-outs to lead 14-9 at the break. Purdy connected with Pettway for a 25-yard score. Hall also crashed in for a 1-yard touchdown.

The Jayhawks settled for first-half field goals of 36, 37 and 30 yards by Liam Jones.
